PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Have you heard about the HSR Day Pass? Here in Hamilton the bus system is used by 22 million riders a year, but very few of us have ever heard of the HSR day pass. In fact, only about 30 passes are used each day throughout the entire city. Since the launch of Passport to Hamilton three years ago, H.S.R. Day Pass sales have increased 30%! One $9 HSR day pass allows 6 people, up to 2 adults and up to 6 children (no more than six people in total, group does NOT need to be related) to use the HSR for an entire day. Without a day pass, just one bus trip for six passengers would cost $14.10, and you may need to take several bus trips in just one day.
Environment Hamilton can show you how this largely unknown and underused discount pass can become your family’s Passport to Hamilton. Environment Hamilton has partnered with over 200 destinations within the city, ranging from museums to recreation centers, to restaurants, cafés, shops, art galleries, and other attractions. Each destination has committed to offering exciting discounts for groups that present a valid HSR day pass.
For example, you and your family could take the bus down to the Art Gallery of Hamilton, where you’d get $10 off the regular family price, then hop on a bus down Main Street and visit the Hamilton Children’s Museum and receive buy-one-get-one-free admission. You could even finish the day off with a free kids ice-cream cone with one adult purchase at Hamilton Waterfront Scoops, or go swimming with your family at the YMCA for free. There are thousands of possibilities for low-cost family adventures.

Not only will Passport to Hamilton offer great—and cheap—ways to get out and see your city, but the project will introduce new riders to the HSR, establish new HSR ticket sales outlets in the community, promote local businesses and tourist destinations, and change the way people think about Hamilton’s transit system.
