TONNES FOR TREES CALCULATOR

Hamiltonians can now take action against global climate change and win trees for their backyard and neighbourhood.

Tonnes for Trees was launched on Feb. 28 at Hamilton City Hall by MPs Russ Powers and Dave Christopherson and west Hamilton councillor Brian McHattie.

Powers delivered a cheque from Environment Canada for $19,560. The program is also supported by the Hamilton Community Foundation and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, while the free trees are provided through Green Venture and subsidized by the City of Hamilton.

The highlight of the launch was the introduction of the program website and its calculator where you can choose from over sixty different ways to cut your greenhouse gas emissions and help clean the air. The amount of your reduction is automatically calculated and assigned to the community of your choice.
